General Steps:

  1. Press Windows key.
  2. Search Windows Security and open it.
  3. Click App & browser control.
  4. Under Reputation-based protection, click Reputation-based protection settings.
  5. Turn Off the SmartScreen-related options you want disabled:
  • Check apps and files
  • SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge
  • Phishing protection
  • Potentially unwanted app blocking
  • SmartScreen for Microsoft Store apps
  1. Accept the UAC/admin prompt if asked.
  2. Restart the PC if the app or installer still behaves the same.

Microsoft Edge Alternative:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Click Privacy, search, and services.
  5. Scroll to Security.
  6. Turn Off:
  • Microsoft Defender SmartScreen
  • Block potentially unwanted apps
